No authority over water sharing: Punjab government
The Punjab government says that the meeting on April 30 was called until the dispute was duly sent to the Central Government nor a proper decision was taken by any competent authority. The petition said that it was decided to give 8,500 cusecs of water to Haryana without proper procedure.
Question on the role of Home Secretary
The Punjab government has also said in the petition that the meeting held on May 2 was convened only to discuss issues related to law and order and it had no right to take a decision in water allocation cases to Home Secretary Govind Mohan. According to the BBMB rules, the Home Secretary does not have the right to decide on water allocation.
BBMB and Center made serious allegations
The AAP government has alleged that the BBMB, Haryana and the central government argued before the court “factually wrong and legally unstable”, making the court instructions against Punjab. The petition stated that the letter and the records presented by the Center in the record court on May 9, it is clear that the minutes of the meeting were never sent to the concerned states before 9 May, while this was the last date for the hearing.
AAP government allegations: action under political pressure
A spokesman for the Punjab government said that the AAP government is worried that Punjab’s water is trying to “turn” illegally towards Haryana at the behest of the ruling BJP government at the BBMB center.
