Mumbai: Gangster Chhota Rajan has been acquitted of a 21 -year -old case in 2004 to attempt to murder a businessman. The court said in the order that no such evidence was brought into the record, which would reveal that Rajan was involved in the crime.

What is the matter?

In 2004, 6-7 people entered Harchandani’s firm’s office and opened fire on an accountant present there. After which a case of attempt to murder was registered at Andheri police station in Mumbai. The police declared Rajan as the desired accused. In 2015, after Rajan’s extradition of India, he was prosecuted in the case.

The court found that the police had also imposed rigorous sections of the Maharashtra Organized Crime Control Act (MCOCA) and claimed that the crime was carried out by Rajan as the head of the crime syndicate and the necessary approval and priority to enact the Act was not appropriate. The court said in its order that the police had failed to prove Rajan’s involvement in the case. According to the prosecution, a businessman named Nandkumar Harchandani was constructing a building under the slum rehabilitation scheme in Andheri in 2004.

A dispute arose between Harchandani and previous owners of land and a contractor. The prosecution claimed that Harchandani was accused of not paying the outstanding amount and he was getting threatening calls.

The prosecution claimed that the call was made by Rajan and the gangster was assigned to kill the builder.

Rajan has been kept in Tihar Jail since extradition in 2015. A special court was nominated for hearing pending cases against him, Rajan is currently serving life imprisonment in the J Dey murder case, he has also been acquitted in some other cases.
