Everyone is waiting for IPL 2025 to resume. BCCI suddenly had to postpon the tournament due to India-Pakistan military confrontation. The Indian Cricket Board postponed the tournament for a week on 9 May. From then on, many foreign players started returning to their country, but most of these players of Punjab Kings stopped in India. This happened due to Ricky Ponting, who is the head coach of Punjab Kings.
The 58th match of IPL 2025 was being played between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals on 8 May. This match held in Dharamshala could not be completed because at the same time drone and missile attacks on India started from Pakistan. The BCCI then canceled the match and then postponed the tournament the next day. Apart from Himachal Pradesh and Punjab Police, the BCCI had taken all the players safely to Delhi with the help of the Ministry of Railways.
Ricky Ponting stopped in India
The ceasefire was announced on May 10 between India and Pakistan, but just before that the situation became tense. In such a situation, on May 9 and 10, foreign players started moving to their home. Other foreign players including Punjab Kings Australian coach Ricky Ponting were also preparing to go. But then the situation changed completely. A PTI report states that as soon as the ceasefire was announced on May 10, the ponting ready to return to his home immediately got down from the plane and stayed in Delhi itself.
The rest of the players also encouraged
Punjab Kings CEO Satish Menon praised him fiercely on this move of Ponting. The report quoted Menon as saying that Ponting not only stopped himself, but he also talked to other foreign players of the team. All these players had returned to their homes. Ponting encouraged them all and encouraged them, which made the effect that all the players are ready to come to India immediately and play again.
