India’s Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar said on Thursday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given the philosophy of ancient Indian politician Kautilya (Chanakya) in today’s governance. He said that Kautilya’s ideology is still relevant and Prime Minister Modi has brought it into the administration of modern India.
While interacting with Kautilya Fellows at the event organized by the India Foundation in New Delhi, the Vice President said, “Kautilya’s policies incorporate the role of state operations, security and leadership.”
They said that In today’s multi-polar world, where the coalitions change, Kautilya had already given this concept-Postrian state is an enemy and the enemy of the enemy is a friend. Which country knows this better than India?
Vice President describes Prime Minister as great visionary
Vice President Dhankar described Prime Minister Modi as a great visionary and said that there have been widespread and concrete changes in India under his leadership. He said that after many decades later, we have found a Prime Minister who has come to power for the third consecutive time. This durability is making a difference.
The Vice President said that Kautilya had talked about partnership democracy and development and today the governance of India is based on this principle. He said that Prime Minister Modi has declared backward districts as ‘aspirational districts’ and made them a pioneer in the section of development.
He said that the Prime Minister took the initiative to convert Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities to the center of economic activities and the Smart City Scheme became not only infrastructure, but became a symbol of convenience -focused thinking.
India believes in world peace, fraternity and welfare
Dhankhar said that Kautilya’s philosophy considers public welfare as the focal point of governance. He said that Shakti is defined by its limits. Democracy is nurtured only when we understand these boundaries. The entire philosophy of Kautilya is eventually focused on public welfare – that is the nectar of good governance.
Our Prime Minister has exemplified Kautilya’s philosophy in action.
Kautilya had imagined that alliances would be ever-shifting. He said, A neighboring state is an enemy, and enemy’s enemy is a friend. Which country knows this better than Bharat?

He also added that democracy in India has survived long before the Constitution came into force. He said that in our Vedic culture, infinite debate – dialogue and debate – has been given importance. India’s democratic spirit has been based on expression and coexistence of dialogue for thousands of years.
In the program, the Vice President emphasized the need for the youth to take inspiration from ancient Indian knowledge and its use in modern rule. They said that Which country knows better than India. We always believe in global peace, global fraternity, global welfare and that is why I said that our motto for G20 (Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam) reflects 100 %.
