Siren used to lie down on the ground as soon as the mock drill announced the memories of the 1965 and 1971 war.

New Delhi: ‘As soon as the siren ran, there was a lot of chaos. Those who were outside the house used to enter inside and those who were away from the houses used to lie down on the ground there. All had given black paint vessels on the windows of the houses. The elders used to talk that even if the bidi drinks, then the bomb could fall from his light. Ramesh Mumukshu, who lives in Dwarka, Delhi, recalled the atmosphere of the 1971 war in this way.

Used to guard overnight

Mumukshu told that I was in school during the 1971 war and we lived in the official colony of Moti Bagh. Schools were discharged. People used to guard all night by making a group in our colony. They were monitored that the lights were not coming out of any house. Everyone was told that the siren was to be lying on the ground as soon as it rang. When the voice of the aircraft was heard, we used to make noise that our army is going to win.

What is air red siren?

Retired Lieutenant General Sanjay Kulkarni from the Indian Army said that air red sirens are the same as sirens in the factory. For example, sirens ring during lunch brakes or holidays. Similarly, sirens are installed at all places during the war. Wherever there is a population, everyone should hear these sirens, they put siren in that way. When it is feared that the enemy’s aircraft is about to attack, these sirens are played so that people can be alerted. It is a message for them to defend themselves. The mock drill will also be told what to do when the siren rings.

What is black out?

This means very dark. All Light of. Whenever the siren goes to the night, no light should be seen anywhere. Lieutenant General Kulkarni said that black out means that if working indoors and needs light, then all the windows should have black paint or black carbon paper so that the lights do not go out at all so that if the fighter jet of the enemy sees below the sky, it will not see anything and you will not know what is targeted.

Where there is not a bunker?

Bunkers have been built in many places in Israel. When the siren rings there, people go to the bunkers and hide so that even if there is an attack in the building above. There are no bunkers everywhere in our country. Lieutenant General Kulkarni said that in 1965 and 1971, trenches (wide and deep trenches) were built in many places. As soon as the siren rang, everyone used to go to their respective trenches. Where there were no trenches, people used to lie inside the ground. Whatever vehicles were running on the way, they used to put it on one side and the whole way would be empty. Kulkarni said that during the 1965 war, I used to study at Bal Bharti School in Lodhi Road. Trench was also made there. As soon as the siren rang, we used to jump into the trench. Those who could not reach there, they used to lie down on the ground. The trench was about three feet deep.
