Surrepalli Sujata
Members of the Bharatiya Janata Party Mahila Morcha in Hyderabad have demanded the suspension of Professor Surpalli Sujata of Satavahana University. This is because he had allegedly made a traitorous remarks against the Operation Sindoor launched by the Indian Armed Forces against Pakistan in response to the Pahalgam terror attack on 22 April. 25 Indians and a Nepali citizen were killed in this attack.
Shortly after the details of Operation Sindoor surfaced on Sunday, 7 May, Sueepalli Sujata posted on her social media Facebook page, expressing surprise that Sindoor means ‘blood vermilion’?
He said that I felt that it represents devotion, worship or religion. War will only be destroyed, but not peace. However, he later removed this post from his Facebook.
BJP leaders criticized
His comment on Operation Sindoor was criticized by political leaders, especially BJP MLAs. He had said that it is equal to treason. BJP MLA Payal Shankar, who declared Sujatha’s comments as blasphemous, issued a statement on Wednesday demanding the Congress government to suspend her as a member of the Advisory Committee of Telangana Education Commission.
On Friday, members led by Mahila Morcha president Jayashree protested outside the main gate of Satavahana University and burnt the effigy of Sujata. He also submitted a memorandum to the Vice Chancellor of the university, demanding his suspension.
Talking to the media, Jayashree said that the Mahila Morcha will meet the Governor and complain about Sujata, about which she claims that this treason case should be registered.
