Union Minister of State for Telecommunications Chandrashekhar Pemmasani on Tuesday removed the possibility of any danger for the current telecom service providers, saying that the approval of the Alan Musk -led satellite Internet provider Starlink is a complex issue, but it is in the final stages.
Talking to reporters during the India Telecom program, the Union Minister said that the security criteria of the government, especially in the current scenario, are important when the enemy country is trying to hack the system of India, Pakistan.
When will Starlink service start
The minister said, this is a slightly complex issue (permit for Starlink). We have to look at many angles. Security is one of them. Certainly, since it is in the final stage, we will consider it again. He said that Starlink’s role in connectivity will be much smaller than traditional telecommunications networks.
50 million customers worldwide of Starlink
Pammasani said, Starlink or others, I wanted you to understand that the number of Starlink customers in the whole world is less than 5 million. This is not much. If you look at speed and other things, it is much slower than the traditional network. Starlink arrival, its acquisition, should not worry too much about all these things. People do not understand this.
He said that whether it is Starlink or other satellite communication companies, its main objective will be to add remote areas where it will be difficult to reach our traditional network and it will be mainly for connectivity not inside the house and not for mobile services.
