New Delhi. Blackout during the war or other military conflicts between India and Pakistan has been a strategic security measure, which can sterilize the air strike of the enemy country. In a special conversation with News18 India, Major General (Retired) P.K. Sehgal said that the main objective of the blackout is to confuse the enemy pilot so that it fails to drop the bomb on the set target. According to Major General Sehgal, when blackout is done, darkness spreads all around. In such a situation, the pilot of the enemy country loses its reference point. He does not understand which area he is above.
Major General Sehgal said that at that time, due to nervousness and confusion, he either delays leaving the bomb or in a hurry, he drops a bomb in an empty ground or farm, which does not harm ordinary citizens and cities. He further explained that there is no need to do this blackout together across the country. In the area where the movement of the enemy’s airplane is caught on the radar, blackout is done within a radius of 50 km. Under this process, all types of lights are closed up to homes, offices, government buildings, factories and street lights, so that the city can appear in darkness from above.
Inverters can become a threat
Major General Sehgal also told that during the 1971 war, there were no facilities like inverters but today every house has inverters. Due to this, even after the power is cut, there is light in the houses, which can indicate the enemy pilot in which area it is. Therefore, it is not enough to close the lights only during the blackout, but it is necessary that people close the windows, drop curtains and make sure that the lights do not come out.
Possible targets of enemy
The enemy country usually targets such sensitive and strategic bases, such as railway stations, airports, hospitals, parliament, army headquarters, airforce and base of Navy. However, when the pilot does not have a clear identity of his goal and he feels danger in his life, he falls in a hurry in any area where the target is not confirmed.

Public responsibility is also important
Major General Sehgal also said that the awareness of the people is very important in war or emergency. If a blackout is ordered, it is the responsibility of every citizen to follow it. A little negligence can endanger the entire area.
