Chandni Chowk, Delhi
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said in a program of traders a few days ago that today there is a need to establish a new place for markets like Sadar Bazar, Chandni Chowk. After this, there is tremendous discussion about this in the shopkeepers of the markets of Old Delhi, especially Chandni Chowk, Sadar Bazar etc. Confusion has arisen among traders. Some people say that market hubs should be set up on the lines of China and Dubai.
Brijesh Goyal, the Chamber of Trade and Industry (CTI) chairman of the traders in Delhi, said that for the last few days, hundreds of traders from Chandni Chowk, Sadar Bazar and Old Delhi have contacted this issue. He has conducted a survey in the WhatsApp groups of Old Delhi traders and market associations. In the survey, 1198 traders of Chandni Chowk, Sadar Bazar etc. have given their opinion.
88% traders gave opinion for not shifting
CTI Chairman Brijesh Goyal said that 88% in the survey is the view of 1055 traders that the markets like Chandni Chowk, Sadar Bazar etc. should not be shifted to another place. Rather, all the facilities should be provided by redevelopment and beautification of the markets. At the same time, some traders think that the government should set up big market hubs according to different trade and sector like China and Dubai.
Senior Vice President of CTI Deepak Garg and Vice President Rahul Adalkha said that most of the traders of Chandni Chowk, Sadar Bazar want us to provide multilevel parking facilities here. If the illegal hawker tracks and encroachments are removed from the markets, then 50% of the problem will end in the same way.
Brijesh Goyal said that the old experience of traders on this issue is not good. Because the order to shift the paper market of Chavadi market and the chemical market of Khari Baoli a few years ago. But where both these markets were to be shifted, even today, basic facilities have not been available, due to which both these markets have not been shifted till date,
CTI says that the whole blame is of DDA
According to the Master Plan 1962, these markets were to be redeveloped keeping the markets like Chandni Chowk Sadar Bazar etc. in the special area, but in the last 50 years these markets have expanded. But DDA did not take care of these markets and the master plan went into cold storage.
Brijesh Goyal said that Chandni Chowk, Sadar Bazar is the world famous historical Mughal market and Delhi, not only the country, people from other countries also come to these markets to shop. Therefore, instead of shifting these markets elsewhere, it should be implemented here according to the needs of markets and shopkeepers.
