He wrote on his social media platform Truth Social Social, “Industry in America is rapidly ending. Other countries are giving many incentives to remove our filmmakers and studios from America. Hollywood and many other areas of America are being destroyed. It is a well -planned effort of other countries and hence the threat to national security.”
Instructions to apply immediate tariff
He added, “This is also promotion and message. Therefore, I am instructing the Department of Commerce and United States Trade Representative to start 100 percent tariffs on all films that are made abroad and are coming in our country. We want films to be made again in America.”
California Governor targeted
Talking to reporters at the White House on Sunday, Trump blamed California Gavner Gavin Newsom for a decrease in filmmaking in Hollywood in the last few years. He said that other countries are stealing films and filmmaking abilities from America. “If he is not ready to make a film inside the United States, we should impose tariffs when they come inside the United States,” Trump said.
According to reports, film production in California has decreased due to budget cuts and more attractive tax incentives outside. In addition, in recent years the American film industry suffered several economic shocks, including Hollywood laborers strike and Kovid epidemic.
Target to bring business in Hollywood
In January, Trump appointed three film stars- John Wite, Mel Gibson and Sylvester Stelon as a special messenger to promote business opportunities in Hollywood. Trump said that his job is to bring back business in Hollywood, as this industry has suffered a lot due to foreign films in the last four years. He posted during that time, “They will work as a special messenger for me so that Hollywood, which has lost a lot of business due to foreign films in the last four years, can be made much better and stronger than ever.”
